Questions Associations Ask

What if our members don't have cameras?

Cameras aren't required. Any business can join to receive precinct alerts and report incidents. Members who do have cameras (CCTV, doorbell or dashcam) can register their location so police know it exists, but a shop with no cameras still benefits from the shared intelligence and heads-up alerts.

Does the association have to run or manage it?

No. Safer Places is the platform; members manage their own accounts. The association's role is simply to fund, co-fund or endorse it; we handle onboarding and support. You're giving members access to infrastructure, not taking on a project to administer.

What about member privacy? Who sees what?

Reporting is structured and opt-in, with an audit trail on every entry. Registered camera locations are only visible to verified police, not to other members or the public. This is deliberately different from an open group chat, where photos and accusations about people are an uncontrolled disclosure of personal information.
